Foundation Brewing Company

A brewery based in Portland Maine, is focused on serving up classic beers that push conventional boundaries. This brewing company has a long line extension including over twenty different flavors of beer. Crafted using unique aromas and exotic hops, Foundation Brewing Company pushes the envelope of the ideal craft beer. The new packaging I have designed includes specific information about the flavor and has a design that will engage young craft beer drinkers. On the design I have included the flavor, what type of beer it is, the aromas that are in the brew as well as the ABV (alcohol by volume) and other regulatory information.
The logo that I have designed for Foundation Brewing Company includes a barrel with a hop and slab-serif typography that creates a grounded effect. I chose the colors based off of the town of Portland, the bright terracotta red color is the same color as historic lighthouses in the area, the gold is based off of the color of ale and wheat and the deep teal is representative of the ocean that surrounds the city of Portland.

The idea behind my bottle design was to engage millennials and to represent the city of Portland. With my value proposition being that this is the bedrock of craft beers and community I wanted to create a tasteful design that appeals to the community of Portland.

Rhode Island State Logo

When designing a logo for Rhode Island the first thought that came into mind was of course, the ocean; knowing this was the most obvious idea I tried to venture away from it. While sketching many different things that Rhode Island is unique for (such as our colonial history, fishing, the Rhode Island red hen, quahogs, etc.), I decided to stick with something that resonates with the beach. I wanted to use a seagull in my logo because it is not as obvious as a wave, it is an animal seen all over Rhode Island and I believe it is a good representation. I kept with the letters RI to keep my logo simple and created a seagull in the negative space between the two letters. The logo color is blue because blue is one of the state colors, I use the other state color (gold) throughout my branding as well.

1369 Coffee House

a small coffee shop found in the town of Cambridge Massachusetts which is well known for harboring college students and tourists. Cambridge has kept its historical buildings intact while becoming a “hip” college town. On 1369 Coffee House’s website customers rave about how welcome they feel and how delicious their coffee is. This “feels like home” affordance is something that I very much wanted to enhance and I did so when I recreated the logo.

I wanted to create a fresh simple logo that looks modern but also has a nod to old typefaces. By stacking the text and creating a simple house shape with a coffee bean shaped smoke swirl I aimed to give off "home sweet home" vibes as 1369 Coffee House is a popular spot to sit with your coffee while working on your laptop or meeting up with friends.

In addition to rebranding the logo I also designed coffee cups and k-cup boxes that fit my brand guidelines. The dark brown color I chose represents bold espresso along with brick red and latte foam colored accents. The coffee cup I designed features a piece of poetry which is apart of my content marketing idea. The idea behind this is that patrons of the coffee shop would submit poems on the 1369 website and the winner would have their poem featured on the cup for a set amount of time. I think this would be a great way to connect the locals and students to the coffee shop while creating an eye-catching cup design.
